About

At Enon we believe that God has given every church five main responsibilities:

Worship
Fellowship
Evangelism
Discipleship
Ministry

Worship is primarily a lifestyle.

Enon offers worship services three times per week where believers get together and corporately worship God.  However, we emphasize that worship continues after corporate worship is over as we live our lives day by day.  During worship services, we strive to place Christ in the center of our worship through the reading of Scriptures and a sermon.  We incorporate instruments and singing into our services, but we believe God can be worshiped without music.  We encourage and lead worshipers to participate in prayer, scripture reading, testimonies, songs, and other means of worship.  We believe that corporate worship must never take the form of something done for an audience, but instead must be something done by a congregation, with God as the audience.  The other four responsibilities are of lesser importance because if we do not have a lifestyle of worship that glorifies God, what good are the other four?

Fellowship with other Christians is crucial to being a spiritually healthy Christian.

In addition to our three corporate worship services each week, we also give people an opportunity to fellowship through Bible studies, multiple ministry opportunities, fellowship dinners, fellowship outings, missions, and youth ministries/events.  The New Testament clearly teaches that every Christian needs other Christians, and should be striving to serve others with his or her talents or spiritual gifts.  By grace, we believe our fellowship is heading in the right direction.

Lifestyle evangelism is the best way to reach people for Christ.

At Enon we are very evangelical and attempt to incorporate the gospel in all we do.  We preach the gospel in our sermons and Bible Studies and have offered many courses on evangelism.  We believe evangelism should most often involve building relationships that will allow true dialog concerning Jesus, but recognize that some situations do not allow for relationship building and therefore we must share with people when we can or as we are led by the Spirit of God.

Discipleship is critical to a continued walk with Christ.

This could possibly be our greatest strength at Enon.  We offer multiple opportunities for men, women, and youth to learn more about what they believe.  We offer a New Member’s class to share what Enon Missionary Baptist Church believes, expects of our members, and what they can expect from us.  God has blessed us with doctrinally sound teachers for all ages.  We offer an AWANA program for the youth in our church and community and we have watched God really use that to place scripture into the minds of our kids.  Although we realize we do not have all the answers, we try to have an environment where people are free to ask questions and not feel like troublemakers.  Our God can handle our questions.

We have a responsibility to serve others through social ministries.

Like most rural Baptist churches, we have traditionally reached out to many hurting people and needs, but have struggled with extensive social ministry.  Our burden now is that we are not reaching out enough to those with deeper needs.  We desire to reach out to Aids patients, single mothers, pregnant teens, the homeless, addicts, those struggling with sexual temptation and sin, and of course those who have never heard the gospel.  The list could go on and on, but we have only begun to wake up to the reality of our need to grow in this area.  Most churches fall into one of two ditches.  Some churches reach out socially to the hurting and needy, but are non-evangelical in that they don’t call for a response to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Many churches that are evangelical do not minister to other social needs.  We desire to have a balance.  We believe Jesus had that balance.  We have grown tired of just hearing sermons; we desire to live them out in a more practical way.  We are convinced that many Christians are looking for authentic Christianity.  We want to reach that goal.  Pray for us and come join us as we journey.
